Union County approves bridge contract change order, deletes replaced structure from NBI and files multiple bridge grant applications

Union County commissioners on July 23 approved a series of highway actions including a contract change order, an inventory update for a replaced structure, utility permitting and multiple grant applications for bridge work.
Highway Superintendent Jerry Buum presented the items and the board approved a change order on contract 64-084-030 that reduces the contract price from $397,781.76 to $390,721.65, a savings of $7,060.11. The board also approved Resolution HD2024-03 to delete the replaced structure associated with 64-084-030 from the National Bridge Inventory because the replacement—an RCBC (reinforced concrete box culvert)—no longer meets NBIS length requirements.
The board approved an application permit for MidAmerican Energy to install an electric pole line along County Road #1. Commissioners then approved HD2024-05, authorizing submission of Bridge Improvement Grant applications for multiple county structures identified in the minutes by project IDs and locations (64-032-070; 64-024-050; 64-058-050; 64-070-250; 64-096-150; 64-103-130). The board also approved a Joint Powers Financial and Maintenance Agreement with Sioux Valley Townships for project 64-061-150, a 10' x 8' cast-in-place box culvert.
Motions for the various approvals were recorded as carried. Highway staff will proceed with the grant submissions and contract administration; the board did not specify grant award timelines.
