Union County considers temporary traffic controls and $120,000-per-intersection signals for road repairs

Highway Superintendent Jerry Buum told the board that paver patching is planned for CR #4 and CR #27 and that message boards were deployed on CR #1 and CR 1B. Buum gave cost estimates for temporary traffic-control measures: Traffic Solutions Inc. quoted about $15,000 per site per month, while Dakota Traffic’s option was roughly $10,000 per site per month; depending on the number of sites, temporary controls could cost roughly $20,000–$30,000 per month for a period of three to nine months.
Buum also presented a vendor estimate from Nystrom Electric for permanent traffic signals at about $120,000 per intersection; he said that permanent installations would generally include reasonable maintenance but that the county would remain responsible for the electric bill.
On bridges, Buum reported inspections and new postings: Bridge 64-042-050 remains posted at a 12‑ton single-axle and 20‑ton combination limit; Bridge 64-120-062 is posted with a 6‑ton limit after an inspection identifying a crushed cap; Bridge 64-020-141 will be posted at 12/20 tons while Hollaway Construction prepares budget numbers for repair.
No formal votes specific to highway funding appear in the minutes; commissioners discussed options and asked staff to return with budget figures and project timelines.
