Union County approves hires, malt-beverage license and auditor salary increase

During its Sept. 3 meeting the Union County Board of Commissioners approved several personnel actions and a liquor license application.
The board approved hiring Julia Ensminger as a full-time deputy starting Sept. 2 at $22.86 per hour; they also approved Jamir Blunt’s move from part-time to full-time jailer (effective Sept. 1 at $19.62) and hired Jessica Hecht as a transport officer starting Sept. 1 at $21.12. Motions for these hires were presented and carried.
The board approved a malt-beverage and South Dakota farm wine retail license for Adele’s Cat, LLC, at 33096 480th Ave., Jefferson, for the 2024–2025 licensing year.
Separately, the board approved a salary increase for Auditor Traci Torrez to $79,031.04 starting Sept. 1, 2024; the minutes state the salary is based upon her predecessor Jackie Sieverding’s salary at the time of appointment. The motion carried.
