Union County approves liquor-license renewals, courthouse holiday closures and multiple routine motions

The Union County Board of Commissioners approved a series of routine administrative and operational items at its Oct. 29 meeting in Elk Point.
The board voted to close the courthouse for Thanksgiving (Nov. 28–29) and for the Christmas period (Dec. 23–25). Commissioners also moved the Dec. 24 meeting to Dec. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
On liquor licenses, the board approved multiple 2025 renewals, including: Two Rivers Inc. (retail on-sale liquor & Sunday sales); Dakota Dunes Country Club, Inc. (retail on-sale liquor & Sunday sales); TSAF LLC (retail on-sale liquor & Sunday sales); DDH, LLC (retail on-sale liquor & Sunday sales); H & H Enterprises (retail wine & cider and package off-sale liquor); and Cubby’s Inc. (retail wine & cider and package off-sale liquor). Motions to approve these applications were recorded as carried.
Traffic and infrastructure items included approval of a highway-ditch cleaning application by Brian Chicoine to clean ditches south from the intersection of 481st Ave. and 326th St., with spoils deposited on the landowner’s field; the Highway Superintendent attended the meeting to discuss the plan. The board also authorized Vice Chairman Kevin Joffer to sign reappraisal specifications for a county property revaluation contract with Vanguard.
Commissioners audited and approved claims and payrolls documented in the minutes (examples listed in the packet include BW Payroll 10/18/2024: $94,988.21; CH Payroll 10/31/2024: $171,816.99; BW Payroll 11/1/2024: $98,146.33) and numerous vendor payments. Several personnel items from prior meetings were readdressed and approved (new hires for deputy and jailer positions, and other administrative items). The meeting recessed briefly during the morning and adjourned at 12:43 p.m.
