Kelloggsville Board approves KEA contract, accepts $1.03 million in expenditures; staff reports smooth school start

Board President Mrs. Ward called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and a motion by board member Mrs. Groters, seconded by Ms. Townsend, approved Consent Agenda items 24-07 through 24-10, which included minutes, a personnel report, NEOLA policies and the expenditure report. Assistant Superintendent of Finance Holly Kleyn reviewed fund totals: General Fund $932,084.88; Food Service $6,652.66; Child Care $0.00; Capital Projects $86,872.72.
The board then approved the KEA contract “as presented” on a motion by Mrs. Groters, seconded by Mrs. Tanis; the vote was unanimous (Yeas: 7, Nays: 0). The minutes record the board’s formal actions but do not include the full contract text or bargaining details discussed outside the motion.
Jeff Owen, the district’s director of instruction, reported that the Rocket Registration events on July 31 and Aug. 1 for returning and new students “went well and was very organized for our first year of having online enrollment,” and he thanked secretaries, staff and the technology department for supporting the effort. Assistant Superintendent Eric Alcorn summarized the start of the 2024–25 school year as smooth, noting buildings were in good condition. Alcorn said a small number of families arrived using the old start time; the district sent an additional communication to parents to clarify the new schedule.
Board members used the introduction-by-board-members section to welcome staff and students back and to congratulate Mrs. Groters for receiving the Master School Board member award after completing nine advanced CBA classes and at least 368 education credits.
President Ward adjourned the meeting at 5:49 p.m. The minutes note that a goal-setting activity followed the regular meeting; the board listed upcoming regular meetings on Sept. 9, Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Oct. 28 at the Board of Education Center.
