The Kelloggsville Board of Education voted unanimously Oct. 14 to approve a consent agenda of routine items and several motions including MASB delegates, a student travel club trip and a bus garage replacement and parking-lot upgrade.
The 7–member board approved Consent Agenda items 24-25 through 24-30, which included approval of minutes from earlier meetings, a personnel report, 2024–25 district field trips, the district Emergency Operations Plan, district credit cards and the expenditure report. Mrs. Groters moved the consent agenda, Ms. Sellers seconded, and the motion carried 7–0.
The board then un-tabled and approved MASB delegates (motions by Mrs. Groters and Mrs. Reidzans, respectively) and approved a Travel Club Trip (motion by Mrs. Groters, seconded by Ms. Sellers). All motions recorded unanimous votes.
In a separate motion, the board approved a proposal to replace the district bus garage and upgrade the parking lot. The measure, moved by Mrs. Tanis and seconded by Mrs. Groters, passed 7–0.
Facilities staff provided an update on summer projects across the district. The report, presented by Mr. Skinner (identified in the minutes only by surname), said crews repaved the parking lots at KECLC and West; installed new carpet and paint at 54th Street Academy and KECLC; completed kitchen upgrades at KECLC; replaced a section of the roof at SE; waxed gym floors; painted the middle school STEM room; replaced band-room ceiling tiles and installed new carpet and paint after a May flood. The minutes extended appreciation to Mr. Skinner and staff who assisted with the work.
Board members also noted operational items: the district received the first of four new buses (the remaining three were reported to be due before November) and the bus will be on display at the Oct. 14 meeting. The minutes record that the City of Kentwood is installing a "refugee island" at the SE/Admin entrance to improve pedestrian safety for students who walk to school.
Student Board Representatives provided brief updates. Myrece Moore said the football team has had a few tough games but is looking forward to Friday's game and mentioned an upcoming birthday. Serena Preciado reported the band took second place at Rockford and received an outstanding performance award; she noted the band also participated in Wyoming Friendly with neighboring schools.
The meeting concluded at 7:33 p.m. The minutes list Crystal Reidzans as secretary and Tammy S. Skinner as recorder. Visitors recorded in the minutes included Ericka Scott and Dave Skinner.
