Kelloggsville administrators report on field trip, parent‑teacher participation and school improvement targets

District administrators used the Nov. 11 meeting to highlight student experiences and academic goals across grade levels.

Gretchen Ludeman described a German class trip to Frankenmuth attended by 34 students. Activities included pretzel making, a scavenger hunt, candle making and a visit to Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland; students photographed the trip and later used the images for a class project. Ludeman thanked the board for financial support and recognized staff who handled trip paperwork.

Administrators led by Mrs. Lanser, Nick Patin and Jen Sherman reported fall parent‑teacher conference participation: 43.33% participation at the middle school, 29.03% at the high school and 100% engagement at 54th Street Academy via a mix of in‑person contacts, phone calls, emails and one‑on‑one meetings. Staff said they will investigate whether prior access to student grades in the Synergy system affected in‑person attendance.

Secondary building leaders presented School Improvement Plan goals focused on reading, math and social‑emotional learning. The middle school set targets of about 55% of students meeting or exceeding expectations in both reading and math. At the high school, leaders reported a target of 60% meeting or exceeding in reading (up from 50% last year) and an approximate 80% target in math attributed to expanded math supports. At 54th Street Academy, staff reported targets of roughly 50% in reading and 60% in math, and noted plans to assemble a building leadership team.

Superintendent Jim Alston also reported an encouraging Parent Advisory Committee meeting and previewed two parent dinner events next semester intended to increase engagement. Student Board Representative Myrece Moore thanked staff and the board and noted student activities including upcoming football travel to Western and recent homecoming events.
