Kelloggsville’s first career fair draws 32 employers; district reports strong staff PD turnout

Ashley Morse told the Board the initial goal had been 10–15 employers, but the event ultimately included 32 organizations such as the Kentwood Police Department, Kentwood Fire Department, Lacks Enterprises, Lumbermen’s, GRCC M-Tec, West Michigan Works, the U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, National Guard, Davenport University and Life EMS Education Center. Feedback collected via Google Forms indicated participants praised students’ preparedness and engagement and requested broader representation from creative fields at future events.
Assistant Superintendent Jeff Owen summarized professional development on Nov. 13, noting the district’s continuing partnership with Leading Educators, targeted math and special education work with Adrian Mendoza, mandated reporter and CPI refresher training, and planned updates to curriculum maps by the end of the semester. Owen reported staff described the math presentation as the ‘best math presentation ever.’
Student Board Representative Serena Preciado reported that the high-school band placed first at a recent competition and will hold a band concert on Dec. 9; she also noted she had begun playing basketball.
Superintendent Jim Alston invited attendees to tour one of the new buses and the transit van after the meeting.
