Operations committee outlines bus garage timetable, safety and technology priorities

The Kelloggsville Goals Committee — Operations provided the Board an update on Dec. 9 covering facilities, safety and technology priorities, including plans and timelines for a new bus garage.
Keith Caterino, chair of the Goals Committee – Operations, told the Board that quotes for modernizing the Bogen paging systems at several buildings are high, and the district will finalize plans for aging buildings before committing to system-wide upgrades. The committee has implemented interim adjustments to ensure the ability to alert classrooms.
Caterino said the district has rolled out analytics from Synergy to building administrators and is training staff on emergency response features; 54th St. Academy is using a reward-store functionality for behavior incentives. The committee reported that classroom educational-technology inventory is complete and an estimated cost for replacement was calculated using mid-September price points.
On transportation, Caterino said drawings for a new bus loop and garage have been rendered by the architect and the project is moving forward. Construction is planned to begin when snow melts in the spring, with the parking lot expected to be completed by the 2025–26 school year. The minutes record that four new buses and a new 10-passenger transit van have arrived and are in rotation; the vehicles were made available for tour outside the meeting.
The committee also reported evaluating food service equipment for energy efficiency, researching bus-route software and rider identification systems, and seeking additional vendor evaluations on whether to resurface or fully replace middle-school tennis courts.
The Board did not take a formal vote on construction funding or contract awards at this meeting; the items were presented as status updates and plans.
