At the Feb. 10 meeting the board received detailed committee reports on district goals related to equity, instruction, human resources and facilities.
Mr. Alcorn, chair of the Board Goals Committee (“A”), said the committee has been meeting with building‑level representation and with consultant Dr. Sheree Joseph Bos of Kent ISD to guide DEI work. The committee is planning an equity audit for 2025–26 and updating staff and student DEI surveys this spring. Building activities cited included a middle‑school Newcomers night, elementary Black History Month lessons, and a high‑school cultural assembly. Instructional professional development efforts are aligned to reduce achievement gaps for African‑American, Hispanic and special education students, including work with Leading Educators on disciplinary literacy and math instruction for EL students.
On human resources goals, Mr. Alcorn reported the district hired a Security Director who has reviewed prior safety audits, toured buildings, and is updating the Emergency Operations Plan. The district is transitioning finance and payroll functions to LINQ with a preliminary launch in 2025–26, implementing an eFMLA portal for FMLA tracking, and moving applicant tracking/employee records to PowerSchool. The district is coordinating with TowerPinkster and Public Financial Management (PFM) to conduct a comprehensive facilities needs assessment.
Board members thanked staff for these efforts and the board expects further updates as the equity audit and facilities assessment proceed.
