School leaders propose high‑school marching band trip to Washington, D.C., for 2026 Memorial Day Parade

Anderson and Groters said the band received a nomination from Hillary Scholten to represent Michigan; the parade admits roughly 45 bands nationwide and the district would be limited to 50 student participants for the trip. Participation will be contingent on auditions and on fundraising to offset costs. Presenters outlined several fundraising ideas including sponsorships, a T‑shirt sale, a BBQ, player cards and a March‑A‑Thon.
The proposed itinerary would include round‑trip charter motorcoach transportation, hotel accommodations, guided walking and bus tours, visits to the Washington Monument, Arlington National Cemetery, Smithsonian museums, the National World War II Memorial and attendance at the National Memorial Day Concert. Presenters estimated the total cost at approximately $1,000 per student; a $1,500 deposit will be required to secure the district’s participation. The proposal will be placed on the Oct. 13 board agenda as an action item for board consideration.
Student Board Representatives Serena Preciado and Cameron Clark told the board they were enthusiastic about the opportunity and supportive of fundraising to make the trip possible.
