Alston said the count compares with 2,257 in 2023 and 2,213 in 2024 and described a regional pattern of declining enrollment across much of Kent County, attributing the trend to post-COVID shifts and decreases in birth rates. He emphasized that Kelloggsville’s enrollment has “remained relatively stable” compared with steeper declines elsewhere in the county.
The district will continue to monitor enrollment for potential budgetary impacts; Alston commended Assistant Superintendent of Finance Holly Kleyn for preparing conservative budgets that account for enrollment uncertainty. No formal budget adjustments or motions were taken at the meeting.
Board members did not move to change budget assumptions during the session and instead heard the report as information for future planning.
