Superintendent to launch secondary student focus group; students to meet monthly

Superintendent James Alston told the Kelloggsville Board of Education that the district will form a Superintendent student focus group at the secondary level to amplify student voice. Permission slips for six high-school and six middle-school students have been collected; the group is scheduled to meet for the first time in December and then monthly through the end of the school year.
Alston said the initial agenda includes selecting a name for the group and participating in team-building activities. Meeting times and locations will rotate between the high school and middle school to accommodate students attending KCTC. Student Board Representative Serena Preciado and student Cameron Clark were identified as participants in the initial cohort.
Student representative Serena Preciado said the evening's technology presentation gave her "more of an understanding of the department and the efforts behind it," and that she looks forward to taking part in the new focus group.
The board recorded the focus-group plan as part of its Student Voice & Leadership goal updates; no formal vote was required to establish the group at this meeting.
