Pondera County commissioners place hospital levy continuation on Nov. 5 ballot

Pondera County commissioners voted to place a ballot question before voters on Nov. 5, 2024 asking whether to continue a previously approved mill levy to fund capital and infrastructure needs at the county-owned hospital and nursing home building leased to Logan Health–Conrad.

The board adopted Resolution #3-2024/25 at its August meetings, directing that ballot language be submitted by the county election administrator. The resolution states the continuation would begin with tax year 2025 for a period of eight years and is estimated to generate approximately $253,341 annually — roughly 12.45 mills.

The resolution includes fiscal-impact examples: the levy is estimated to cost a homeowner with a $100,000 market-value property about $15.89 per year, $47.67 per year on a $300,000 home and $95.34 per year on a $600,000 home. The resolution notes the 2014 voted levy expired in tax year 2024 and that the board received a request from the Logan Health–Conrad board of directors to place the continuation on the ballot.

Clerical deadlines were part of the record: the minutes note the deadline to submit ballot issue language to the county election administrator was Aug. 14, 2024. The motion to place the ballot question was recorded as adopted by the board during the August meeting cycle.

If approved by voters, the levy would be used for "needed imminent and future infrastructure and capital needs" at the county-owned hospital and long-term care building leased to Logan Health–Conrad.
