During the public-comment portion of the June 3 work session, community member Karen Sedlacek asked whether county officials were discussing the possibility of the Town of Lakeview going bankrupt and whether there was a plan.
Commissioner Barry Shullanberger responded that commissioners are in constant contact with town officials and acknowledged that the issues were real. He said the county could potentially assume some responsibilities if necessary but that the county could not assume the town's debt. Sedlacek listed issues affecting the town and said she was not seeking immediate answers but wanted to voice frustrations and encourage other citizens to attend meetings.
The board did not take formal action during the work session in response to the comment, but the exchange was recorded in the minutes.
