Commissioner: SCOACT awarded $46M with no planned projects for Lake County; officials to pursue regional partners

Vice‑Chair Barry Shullanberger told the Lake County Board of Commissioners on May 21 that he was disappointed SCOACT’s 2025 project list included no planned projects for Lake County after the commission awarded $46 million to the region.
Shullanberger said five projects were completed in neighboring Klamath County and three more are planned there, but that his review of the SCOACT awards showed no projects planned for Lake County. He said he will press the issue with regional partners, meet with the CEO of Collins Pine about rail shipping options and continue outreach to try to secure infrastructure work for Lake County.
Shullanberger also noted that the South Central Oregon Economic Development District (SCOEDD) is advertising for a part‑time director and that he will attend a June 3, 2025 meeting to review applicants; he said there were no applicants from Lake County so far.
Other liaison items reported included Commissioner James Williams’s work with Community Counseling Solutions (CCS) to create a five‑county advisory group for Developmental Disabilities Services to meet state requirements, and Chair Mark Albertson’s plans to contact Green Cement about a July open house and to consult attorneys about county power needs. Mark Smith of Community Solutions Innovators said he will provide monthly updates on the Community and Economic Development strategic plan.
