Lake County schedules hearing on Walker Alley vacation after property owner request

County Counsel Paige Sully told the board that “the alleyway could not be vacated without notice to the public, and a hearing,” prompting commissioners to decline an immediate vacation and instead schedule a formal hearing. Property owner Bonnie Walker attended the session and said she has been awaiting the alley vacation as she expects delivery of a modular home within the month.
Vice‑Chair Barry Shullanberger moved to hold the hearing in approximately 31 days; Commissioner James Williams seconded. The board set the hearing for the July 1, 2025 work session at 9:00 a.m. The motion passed unanimously (3 Ayes).
The hearing will give members of the public an opportunity to comment on the proposed alley vacation and will allow county staff to provide required notices and materials in advance. The board did not take additional action on the property at the May 21 meeting.
Next steps: county staff will post required public notices and prepare materials for the July 1 hearing.
