Commissioner Mark Albertson told the board that Lake County had been included on a federal "sanctuary" listing without the county's knowledge.
"Lake County had never made a statement that it was considered a sanctuary for illegal aliens," Albertson said, and he said commissioners made multiple inquiries at various government levels to seek an explanation. He told the board the list was taken down from federal websites within a day.
Albertson did not name the federal source or cite a statute; he described the removal of the listing as the immediate development following county inquiries. The board did not take formal action during the work session on the issue.
