Commissioners approve predator-flight reimbursement, market permit and major road and service contracts

The Lake County Board of Commissioners on April 9 approved several community and procurement items, including a reimbursement to ranchers, a temporary use permit for a seasonal market and multiple contracts for road work and legal services.
Vice-Chair Barry Shullanberger said 13 ranches in the Plush area hired a predator flight and requested county reimbursement for half the cost; the board approved payment of $3,355.00 from Budget 215 (Economic Development) to cover half the flight.
The Lakeview Saturday Market was granted permission to use the courthouse lawn from May 17 through Oct. 1, contingent on the market signing a county contract and providing liability insurance, Properties and Facilities Manager David Berman said.
Road Superintendent Kevin Hock presented procurement bids. The board awarded the 2025 Surface Oil Treatment contract to Albina Asphalt at $755,766.50 and approved purchasing herbicide materials from Nutrien Ag Solutions for $43,218.30. Both motions carried unanimously.
Assessor Linda Hopper presented a contract with Bair Law, LLC to handle a backlog of tax foreclosures; the board approved the agreement with a fee cap to keep charges within budget. Commissioner Williams said the Assessor's office has budget authority to cover the work. Commissioner Shullanberger noted the county can recoup taxes owed through foreclosure processes.
The board also approved Resolution 2025-03, updating the Sheriff's Office fee schedule.
All procurement and permit approvals from these agenda items carried by unanimous votes unless noted otherwise.
