State fire marshal orders corrections; Lake County closes grandstand until suppression system repaired

Fairgrounds Manager Briana Perez told the board the Oregon State Fire Marshal inspected the fairgrounds and issued three orders of correction for the grandstand suppression system, building repairs and kitchen/stove equipment. Perez said the grandstand’s suppression mainframe failed several years ago and much of the lower pipework is in poor condition; corrective work is in progress and the facility will remain closed for events until repairs are complete.
Perez said some corrective work is relatively limited — a replacement mainframe and parts may cost $3,000–$7,000 — but other pipework and sprinkler repairs increase the scope and cost. Maintenance staff and outside contractors have been contacted for bids; Perez and Facilities Manager David Berman estimated a worst‑case near‑term project cost of about $25,000 to restore suppression and associated systems, while acknowledging that a full system replacement could be costlier if additional defects are found.
Perez also reported progress on RV park repairs (replacement parts arrived and insurance expected to cover damage‑related costs) and said the fairgrounds will block off the damaged grandstand immediately. The fire marshal scheduled a re‑inspection in mid‑May. Perez asked that no events be held in the grandstand until the work is verified by the marshal.
