Nonprofit seeks $35,000 to fund Lake County community and economic strategic plan

Chantal Dugied of Community Solutions Innovators (CSI) told the Lake County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 21 that her nonprofit plans to apply for a $35,000 grant to fund planning analysis across 14 identified population areas in Lake County. Dugied said CSI is working in a complementary role with Lake County Resources Initiative (LCRI) and would search for funding sources outside LCRI's existing scope.
The proposed grant would support operational work: gathering information, compiling findings and forming a steering committee composed of local stakeholders. Dugied said the goal is to "tie together all of the strategic plans from all partners in the county, and ensure they all then tied in with the State Strategic Plan," creating a useful plan for stakeholders to reference when applying for project funding.
Dugied told the board the application is due Feb. 28, 2025, and that CSI's intent was to have a first draft submitted to USDA in the first week of February. Vice'Chair Barry Shullanberger asked whether $35,000 was the total amount CSI could request; Dugied answered that $35,000 reflected what fit the group's budget plan and was not necessarily the maximum award.
The presentation was informational; the record shows no formal county financial commitment during the work session. Next steps identified by Dugied included forming a steering committee and continuing outreach to ensure a broad set of community voices were represented.
