The Lake County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 8 approved the county’s State Transit Improvement Fund (STIF) plan application and also approved a request to cancel a U.S. Forest Service lease for the Paisley Airport.
Tina Burneikis, Commissioners Assistant and Public Transit Coordinator, presented the STIF plan at a prior work session; Commissioner James Williams moved to approve the STIF plan application and Vice-Chair Barry Shullanberger seconded. The motion carried 3-0.
Commissioner Shullanberger said the Forest Service initially took a lease on the Paisley Airport to pursue funding; the Forest Service has requested cancellation of that lease. Vice-Chair Shullanberger moved to approve the cancellation and Commissioner Williams seconded the motion; the board approved the cancellation unanimously and noted the agency could seek a new lease if future needs arise.
The meeting did not include details about funding amounts in the STIF application or specific next steps for airport property management. Commissioners also approved acceptance of minutes from a Dec. 3 special session during the same meeting.
