Board reviews liaison assignments, planning commission vacancies and administrative items; public comment on Recreational Immunity

At the Jan. 7 work session the Lake County Board of Commissioners handled several administrative items and heard a public comment about pending Recreational Immunity legislation.
Commissioners Assistant Tina Burneikis proposed moving April meeting dates to allow staff attendance at training; the board agreed to move the April meetings to April 8–9 and April 22–23 and to move the Christmas Valley meeting to March 19. Commissioners reviewed and revised liaison and committee assignments and reached consensus on the changes.
Planning Director Darwin Johnson, Jr., reported multiple open positions on the Planning Commission and said recruitment advertising had produced no responses; he noted commission bylaws aim for geographic and economic representation even though state law does not require geographic coverage. County Clerk Amy Hutchinson proposed repealing Ordinance 52.103 and replacing it with a flexible fee schedule for clerk services; commissioners asked Hutchinson to add a passport fee before the next meeting and requested a process for notifying the Clerk of violations.
Commissioner Barry Shullanberger recommended renewing membership in the Oregon Cattlemen's Association for $150; the board agreed to pay the dues with Commissioner James Williams recorded as abstaining. Shullanberger also reported the U.S. Forest Service requested cancellation of its lease of the Paisley Airport for fire suppression services.
During public comment, Chamber of Commerce Director Shelley Batty reminded the board of the Jan. 18 Chamber Gala and said she is working with partners on Recreational Immunity legislation intended to protect counties and municipalities from lawsuits when people are injured while recreating on county lands.
