Rawlins County amends hazardous-waste plan to allow hardened paint disposal at landfill

The Rawlins County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 14 approved an amendment to the county's Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) 5-year Plan to allow landfill staff to accept paint that has been mixed with cat litter or sawdust and allowed to harden.
Assistant County Attorney Charles Peckham presented the update to the board and explained the proposed change. Commissioner Lincoln Pochop moved to approve the amendment; Commissioner Alan A. Solko seconded the motion and it carried.
During discussion commissioners referenced a letter the county received from an entity identified as Cahoj's and noted the City of Herndon had sent letters about misuse of a recycling trailer that could lead to its removal if problems continued. Board members asked that missing information requested from Cahoj's be provided where applicable.
The amendment adjusts handling procedures for paint at the county landfill by specifying that paint mixed with absorptive material and hardened is acceptable for disposal under the updated HHW plan.
