Good Samaritan reports June loss and seeks budget consideration; Rawlins County EMS wins Medicare revalidation

Leaders of Good Samaritan presented June financial statements to the Rawlins County Board of Commissioners on July 16, asked to be considered in the 2025 budget and said the facility will pay for a proposed new call system rather than seek county funding. County EMS reported a successful Medicare revalidation and provided operational updates.
Jackie Portschy and Randy Fitzgerald represented Good Samaritan and gave the board the facility's June financials. Commissioners asked about a reported loss; Fitzgerald attributed the loss to a low census. The facility discussed the lease and presented a quote for a new call system; Fitzgerald said the facility would pay for the new call system instead of asking the county to cover the cost.
Andrea Cross described services offered by Options and asked the commissioners to remember those services in 2025 budget planning.
Megan Rippe, speaking for Rawlins County EMS, reported that the Medicare revalidation and the Medicare cost report submitted by the service had been approved, and she thanked Renee Sagel and Jennifer D'Amico for their help with cost reporting. Rippe provided final call numbers for June and current July call counts, noted that ambulance unit 414 remained out of service while the department awaited parts, and described community training activity including a babysitting class in June and upcoming CPR classes.
The board approved routine items later in the meeting, including minutes and a resolution related to public health budgeting; no county appropriation was recorded for Good Samaritan at this session. EMS will continue to report operational metrics to the commissioners as repairs and staffing permit.
