Washington County updates school construction funding, GREAT grant and airport EMS building plans

County Manager and County Attorney Curtis Potter updated the Washington County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 6 about school construction funding, a GREAT grant award and an airport building concept.
Potter said the State Department of Public Instruction allowed the county to use ESSR funds on hand to pay the design architect—approximately $3.5 million—and that the county would use grant funds for the remaining approximately $500,000. He said an application to the Department of Public Instruction for demolition of the existing facility had been submitted and that the county had progressed on acquiring additional property for the project. Davenport Financial and Bob Jessup were scheduled for follow-up work on financing.
Potter also said Washington County had been awarded $2.8 million through a GREAT grant but that the award requires a local match. He said the county would continue monitoring next steps and funding options.
On airport planning, Potter reported a discussion with Ms. Moscato about drawing down money for a multipurpose building described as an Airport-EMS facility; he recommended hiring a project manager to develop a scope of use. Potter cited a project budget of about $3.9 million.
These items were informational; the board did not adopt new ordinances or enter into contracts in public session on these topics at this meeting. Follow-up meetings of the working committee and further financing discussions were noted.
