Nelson County approves construction drawings for new Social Services office, authorizes financing follow-up

The Nelson County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Dec. 10 to authorize PMA Architecture to proceed with construction drawings for the new Department of Social Services office building.
PMA President Jeff Stodghill and architect Akshar Patel presented updated schematic designs, site plans, exterior materials, interior layouts and a third-party cost estimate that, according to the presentation, remains within budget. Stodghill told the Board the team had resolved mechanical, electrical and plumbing approaches and proposed an 18-month construction timeline following a spring bidding period.
"We believe the design meets your square-footage targets and keeps the project within the budget estimate," Stodghill said during the presentation.
Supervisor Jesse N. Rutherford moved to approve Resolution R2024-81 to proceed with construction drawings; Dr. Jessica L. Ligon seconded the motion. The Board approved the resolution by roll call vote 4–0. County Administrator Candice McGarry said Davenport & Company will work with staff on a financing plan and the Board will receive an integrated financing and construction calendar.
Next steps include submission of site plans to the County’s site-plan review process and coordinating a financing schedule with Davenport prior to spring bidding.
