Bio-Gas Technologies and potential buyer urge discussion of county landfill gas contract; commissioners defer

Laura LaGodney, vice president of Bio-Gas Technologies, and Brian Evans, chief executive officer of North American Power Systems, addressed the Erie County Commissioners during public comment at the Jan. 8 meeting to propose a sale of Renewable Energy Services of Ohio's interest in the county's landfill gas contract.

LaGodney told commissioners a proposal had been mailed outlining an interested buyer seeking to acquire 100% of Renewable Energy Services of Ohio’s shares in the contract, which the record shows runs through Dec. 19, 2027. She said the proposal would "increase the County’s revenue immediately while continuing with environmental emissions," and asked the board to consider an open discussion of the contract and proposal.

Evans said his firm has experience with landfill gas energy systems, has toured the site and believes it can enhance the facility’s efficiency and "maximize output of gas emissions at the Landfill" to improve the county’s return on investment. Both presenters provided their contact information and materials to the commissioners.

The commissioners did not take up the matter for discussion at the Jan. 8 meeting. Mr. Shoffner thanked the speakers for providing the information and said no discussion would take place that day, noting the full board was not present.

Next steps: the record shows the speakers submitted a written proposal; the board did not schedule further action at the Jan. 8 meeting. Any formal consideration would require placement on a future agenda and full board participation.
