Erie County commissioners approve in-house mowing hire, note property sale delay and personnel changes

Erie County Commissioners on April 2 approved hiring a part-time seasonal worker to perform lawn mowing for the Department of Environmental Services instead of soliciting bids, and they recorded several personnel, travel and operational items.
County Administrator Hank Solowiej said Utilities Director John Rufo requested quotes but recommended that using county staff and Huron Basin equipment would be more cost-effective; the commissioners approved hiring a part-time seasonal worker and authorized staff to proceed.
Solowiej also updated the Board on the Galloway Road property sale, saying completion is delayed until an updated survey corrects an error in the legal description caused by the previous County Engineer. The sale will proceed after the corrected survey is finished.
The Board approved a number of personnel actions and travel requests: copier purchases for Common Pleas Court (Ricoh machines), travel authorization for Family and Children First Council staff transporting a client to Camp NuHop, longevity and personnel changes for DOES and The Meadows at Osborn Park (hires, resignations, shift changes), and recruitment requests for maintenance staff at DOES. Travel and personnel forms were recorded as approved during the meeting.
Separately, the Board received bids for pavement markings (three bids reported), authorized an RFQ for Sawmill Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant sludge forcemain improvements, and approved an increase to a change order on the Meadows at Osborn Park natural-gas conversion project. These operational items were recorded and will follow standard purchasing and contract processes.
