Commissioners appoint Caleb Stidham to airport board, cancel June meetings and approve several resolutions

The Erie County Commissioners on May 22 moved to fill a vacancy on the Erie-Ottawa International Airport Board after Ottawa County did not respond to a previously proposed joint appointee. County Administrator Hank Solowiej reported that Rob Quinn had been the board's prior proposed joint appointee but Ottawa County had not responded by 9:30 a.m., leaving the Airport Board unable to function effectively. To restore quorum, the commissioners proposed and adopted a motion appointing Caleb Stidham as the county's joint appointee, subject to approval by Ottawa County.
On separate motions the board canceled a series of June commission meetings, including June 2, 5, 9, 12, 19 (Juneteenth), 23, 25, 26 and 30, 2025. Commissioners also adopted several resolutions and approvals by roll-call vote (all aye). Among the formal actions the board adopted an updated Community Housing Preservation and Impact Program (CHIP) Policies and Procedures Manual (Resolution #25‑141); approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Erie Soil & Water Conservation District to provide engineering and design services for ditch projects (Resolution #25‑142); and adopted Subgrant Agreement Amendment 3 with the Ohio Department of Children and Youth Services to add $20,000 in Family Centered Services and Support Funds for the Family and Children First Council (Resolution #25‑143).
The board approved Change Order No. 8 to Best Commercial Energy Services, Inc., granting a 53‑day extension for The Meadows at Osborn Park natural gas conversion project; approved a travel request for Stephanie Stanley of the Dog Warden’s Office to attend North West Dog Wardens Association training in Lima on May 30 at no cost; recorded a personnel action for Cortne Johnson (ECDJFS) marking successful completion of probation effective May 16, 2025; and approved a recruitment request for Head Cook at the Juvenile Justice Center. The meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
Votes at a glance: the appointment of Caleb Stidham and the listed resolutions and administrative approvals were adopted by roll call with all commissioners recorded as voting yes (President Shenigo, Mr. Old, Mr. Shoffner).
