Charlotte County refers minimum-lot-size changes to Planning Commission, adopts three proclamations
Summary
The Board referred proposed minimum-lot-size amendments for family subdivisions, the Village Center and General Residential districts to the Planning Commission and unanimously adopted resolutions for POW/MIA Recognition Day, Domestic Violence Awareness Month and PPTRA; it also appointed Kyle Scruggs to the CCRS Oversight Committee.
The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 11 unanimously referred proposed amendments to minimum lot-size requirements for family subdivisions (General Agricultural District), the Village Center District, and the General Residential District to the county Planning Commission for review.
County Administrator Daniel Witt presented the referral resolution, noting the county attorney advised that state law requires the governing body to refer such amendments to the Planning Commission for recommendation. The Board asked the commission to consider consistent lot sizes across the three potential amendments and to factor in availability of public water and sewer for some General Residential lots.
Also during the meeting the Board adopted three resolutions by unanimous vote: proclaiming Sept. 20, 2024 as POW/MIA Recognition Day; declaring October 2024 Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month; and approving a PPTRA resolution. Gwen Hamlett of the County’s Victim Witness Program described services provided to survivors and thanked the Board for supporting the domestic violence proclamation.
Vice-Chairman Walter T. Bailey announced the Board appointed Kyle Scruggs to fill a citizen-at-large seat on the CCRS Oversight Committee after a July resignation. Supervisor Henry Carwile will contact Scruggs to deliver contact information to county staff.
The Board also asked staff to draft a resolution recognizing the Drakes Branch Volunteer Fire Department’s 75th anniversary for the October meeting.
