Chase County meeting roundup: holiday schedule, EMS and weed reports, appointments, enforcement notice

At the Dec. 23 meeting the Chase County Commissioners adopted the 2026 holiday schedule, accepted the Wauneta EMS quarterly and the annual noxious weed reports, reappointed three Fair Board members, approved a 3% wage increase for the assistant highway superintendent and issued a 10‑day permit notice for Hoff’s Hunting Lodge.
The Chase County Commissioners covered routine county business and several personnel and administrative items during their Dec. 23, 2025 meeting at the Chase County Courthouse.
The board approved the county’s 2026 holiday schedule following discussion of Road Shop employee preferences; Road Shop employees will receive New Year’s Eve in exchange for Independence Day (observed Friday, July 3). The board also approved routine payroll and claims and approved the Dec. 9, 2025 minutes.
Leanne Klein of Wauneta EMS presented the quarterly report and asked whether the county expects the hospital to assist with patient transfers; the commissioners advised Klein and EMS Captain Deb to meet directly with the hospital board to discuss transfer procedures. Weed Superintendent Brandon Beard presented the annual noxious weed report, which the commissioners accepted as presented.
Commissioner Jacci Brown moved and Commissioner Kurt Bernhardt seconded the reappointment of Austin Bernhardt (District 1), Jakob Burke (District 2) and Clay Owens (District 3) to the Fair Board; the motion passed. The board also approved a 3% wage increase for Assistant Highway Superintendent Dick DeWester.
Zoning Administrator Jordan Beard reported that a new building at Hoff’s Hunting Lodge was constructed without a permit. County Attorney Joel Burke notified the property owner and recorded that the owner has ten days to obtain the required permit before fines similar to prior offenders will be imposed. Becky Bernard requested abbreviated building cleaning on Christmas Eve with full cleaning resuming Dec. 26; the board indicated approval.
With no further business, Chairman Jacci Brown adjourned the meeting at 9:40 a.m.
