Chase County commissioners approve $209,854.21 in claims, vote to surplus courthouse décor for donation

Chairman Jacci Brown called the Chase County Commissioners to order at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Chase County Courthouse. Commissioners Billie Muehlenkamp and Kurt Bernhardt were present; County Clerk Wendy Moe and other county staff attended.
Treasurer Rebecca Bernard told the board she will remove Holly Lempke as a signer on county accounts at Waypoint Bank and remove Janet Tomky as a signer on accounts at Pinnacle, Adams and Sandhills Banks, and that the Treasurer's Office will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24 for Christmas Eve. County Attorney Joel Burke joined the meeting, and Assessor Tori Mueller said she has a test version of the personal property e-filing website available for commissioners to review.
The board unanimously approved claims and payroll as submitted. The record lists a net payroll of $69,735.59 and a grand total of all claims of $209,854.21, with claims rolled by vendor in the meeting record. Commissioner Kurt Bernhardt moved to approve the claims; Chairman Brown seconded. The vote was recorded as Muehlenkamp — yes; Brown — yes; Bernhardt — yes.
Commissioner Bernhardt moved to approve the minutes of the Nov. 25, 2025 meeting as written; Commissioner Muehlenkamp seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The commissioners discussed courthouse décor, expressing a preference to replace current wall hangings and knick-knacks with historical images such as old county maps and buildings and to display items from the county museum on a rotating schedule. Chairman Jacci Brown moved to surplus a list of décor items presented (candlesticks, fake books, baskets, lamps, wall hangings, fake flowers and a pot) and donate them to the Imperial Community Center thrift store. Commissioner Muehlenkamp seconded; the motion passed with all three commissioners voting yes.
With no one present for open forum and no further business, Chairman Brown adjourned the meeting at 8:38 a.m.
