Recreation Director Bacci said summer registrations remain open for softball, t‑ball and baseball and that a new 'Tott' t‑ball program for 3‑ and 4‑year‑olds has 47 children signed up. She said soccer registration closed March 8 with teams full and listed upcoming events including a Leprechaun Hunt (March 16), spring crafts and an indoor egg hunt (March 23), and the Summer Concert Series at Nathan Hale Park (Sundays, July 4–Aug. 4). “We still have summer softball, t‑ball and baseball registration open. We've added a Tott t‑ball, 3 and 4‑year‑olds we already have 47 signed up,” Bacci reported.
Safety Director Scharschmidt said the Fire Department received a State Fire Marshal grant for $10,000 to help purchase new and extra airbags and ribbing; the total cost of the equipment is $14,728, leaving a city share of $4,728. He also noted that Patrick Mason, a 17‑year firefighter, scored first on both the written and oral lieutenant exam components and will be on the March 25 council session. On police hiring, Scharschmidt said the Civil Service Commission approved an NTN list of 42 candidates and interviews are ongoing.
Service Director Sepik announced that CT Consultants and Brown and Caldwell (working with NEORSD) will perform dye testing at Blossom and Sutherland as part of waterline projects; residents will receive door‑hanger notices and contact numbers for NEORSD and Brown and Caldwell were provided.
Mayor Gallo summarized senior center activity (1,319 meals served/delivered over the prior two weeks), upcoming senior outings and events, and several grant and capital efforts: a Recreational Trail reimbursement submitted for the Nathan Hale trail, a pending CDBG application for Denison Boulevard (the transcript notes a requested $150,000), and a NatureWorks application for Greenbriar Commons playground improvements. The mayor also said she has been in touch with State Representative Sean Brennan and State Senator Nickie Antonio about capital funding requests and that the Cuyahoga County Library project is expected before Planning in May.
These items were reported during the directors' portion of the meeting; most were informational and no council action was required at the session.
