Brewster County approves 9-1-1 map changes: shortens impassable Horned Toad Hill and adds four Cielo Vista roads

County elected officials voted July 23 to modify the county 9-1-1 Master Street Address Guide (MSAG), shortening an impassable roadway and adding four new roads in the Cielo Vista Ranch subdivision.

911 GIS Coordinator Kayse Muratori told the court that "Horned Toad Hill has no legal easement to extend beyond PROPERTY ID 25262" and is impassable past that point, and requested shortening the road on 9-1-1 maps to remove the inaccessible segment. The court approved the change after County Judge Greg P. Henington moved to adopt the modification and Commissioner Sara Colando seconded; the motion passed 4-0.

Muratori also presented four new road names to add to the MSAG database: Andromeda Road (off State Hwy 118), Antares Road (off Andromeda Road), Altair Road (off Andromeda Road) and Alpha Centauri Road (between Antares and Altair), all within the Cielo Vista Ranch subdivision. The court noted that each of the four roadways "grant legal easement to all parcels within the Subdivision," and the judge's motion to add the roads carried 4-0.

Why it matters: accurate MSAG entries ensure emergency dispatchers and responders can locate callers. Adding legally-eased subdivision roads and removing an impassable segment reduces the risk of misrouting emergency responses and clarifies addressing for residents and service providers.

The court took both actions as single-line motions with no recorded dissent. The 9-1-1 GIS coordinator provided an informational program update afterward; no additional changes were made at the meeting.
