RCGCD hears proposal for produced-water monitoring; expects plan from UTBEG in January

At the Dec. 19 meeting the Reeves County Groundwater Conservation District heard a summary of correspondence and a proposed research step to study produced-water infiltration.
Greg Perrin summarized a phone call with James Beach of AGS Solutions and Rebecca C. Smyth of UTBEG about exploring whether produced water is infiltrating or beginning to affect fresh-water areas in parts of Reeves County. Perrin said Smyth agreed to develop a monitoring plan without charge and to present it to the board at the January meeting. The board listed Smyth's proposal and an item related to water coming up at the PBTISD high school among items to consider at the Jan. 23, 2025 meeting.
No vote was taken on the monitoring plan at the December meeting; the board asked staff to have the plan ready for board consideration in January.
