Parmer County keeps county burn ban in place but lifts fireworks restrictions

The Parmer County Commissioners Court discussed local fire safety on June 10 and made two separate decisions: it retained the county burn ban but removed local restrictions on fireworks.
Judge Isabel 'Izzy' Carrasco said the court took recent rainfall and an ongoing hot, dry forecast into account and moved to keep the burn ban in place; Commissioner Kenny White seconded the motion and it passed by majority vote.
Separately, the court reviewed the drought-monitor threshold that determines fireworks restrictions. The court noted Parmer County's current reading at 402, below the 575 level required to restrict fireworks. Commissioner White moved to lift any fireworks restrictions; Judge Carrasco seconded and the motion passed by majority vote.
The court's actions leave an active burn ban while allowing fireworks at this time because local drought indicators have not met the statutory threshold for fireworks restriction.
