Sheriff Eric Geske told the Parmer County Commissioners on July 22 that the county jail was holding 29 inmates, including four from neighboring Lamb County, and that the county’s contracted jail nurse practitioner, Lacey Meeks, FNP, will not renew her contract when it ends in July.
Geske said he will post the opening for a replacement medical provider. He also reported the sheriff’s office is replacing a backup server using ARPA funds previously approved by the court and that he has one quote to fix and reseal the jail roof for $27,000 and is awaiting additional bids for cameras and repairs.
The court approved a purchase of a new pickup truck for the sheriff’s office from a Hamilton dealership in Clovis; with trade-in the county’s cost was listed as $49,631.75 and the purchase was approved using SB 22 funds after a motion by Judge Isabel Izzy Carrasco and a second by Commissioner Kirk Frye. The minutes do not include individual vote tallies.
Sheriff Geske also presented the Hug Patrol stuffed-animal donation program, funded by a Shapira Foundation grant to provide officers with comfort items for children in crisis. Judge Carrasco moved to approve the program; Commissioner Casey Russell seconded and the motion passed by majority vote.
Geske’s update covered operational and personnel items; the transcript does not provide contract details, a timeline for hiring a replacement medical provider, or the complete vendor quotes for cameras or roof repair.
