Sheriff reports jail population, drug-dog service to schools and equipment needs

Sheriff Eric Geske updated the court on law enforcement and jail operations at the Oct. 15 meeting.
Geske said the Parmer County Jail was housing 20 inmates at the time of the meeting: seven from Lamb County and one from Castro County, and he expected five more inmates from Lamb County by the end of the day. He told commissioners the county’s drug dog is available to all Parmer County schools and that that service has begun.
The sheriff said he was seeking an ATV to support county operations and had located one at a Kawasaki dealer in Clovis for roughly $18,000; commissioners encouraged him to obtain a bid from a Kubota dealer in Friona as well. Geske also reminded elected officials and commissioners to complete at least the first four FEMA training classes and said he would send a link.
With no further business the court adjourned at 11:48 a.m.
