Parmer County commissioners accept DA forfeiture report, approve audits and financial reports

Parmer County Commissioners Court accepted the District Attorney's seizure and forfeiture report and approved a series of routine financial items at its Oct. 28 regular meeting in the Farwell courthouse. Charlotte Marrufo, representing the District Attorney's office for the 287th Judicial District, presented seized funds still pending court judgments and the office's forfeiture funds for the period Sept. 1, 2023, through Aug. 31, 2024. On a motion by Commissioner Kirk Frye, seconded by Commissioner Casey Russell, the Court voted to accept the report and directed the County Treasurer to audit it.

Treasurer Sharon May presented the accounts payable list for Oct. 28, 2024, and the Court approved payment on a motion by Commissioner Kenny White. The Court also approved the Treasurer's payroll report for Oct. 15, 2024, and accepted the quarterly receipts and expenditures report covering July 1–Sept. 30, 2024, after a motion from Commissioner Charles Wilkins.

Commissioner Kenny White moved to engage Doshier, Pickens & Francis LLC to perform the county's 2024 fiscal-year audit; Commissioner Casey Russell seconded and the motion passed by majority vote. The Court also agreed to reschedule the Nov. 11 meeting (Columbus Day observance) to Nov. 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., on a motion by Commissioner White. Separately, the Court approved the annual renewal of the Parmer County 2025 Indigent Defense Program grant, which county officials said is intended to support implementation and improvement of indigent criminal defense services.

The approvals were routine motions carried by majority vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes. The Court adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
