Parmer County tables fire-system contract after lower bid; jail reported to hold 20 inmates

The Parmer County Commissioners Court on Nov. 12 tabled consideration of a proposed fire-equipment maintenance contract after hearing a lower annual bid and requesting additional cost information to cover precinct fire extinguishers.
Amy Dudley reported that the Parmer County Jail was housing 20 inmates, nine of whom were from Lamb County. Jailer Shaun Jones presented a Firetrol bid of $1,608.75 for yearly maintenance of the fire-suppression system. Court minutes note the county currently uses Johnson Controls for fire-suppression maintenance and AAA for fire-extinguisher servicing; last year the county paid about $5,078 for Johnson Controls’ yearly maintenance and paid more than $8,000 in total because of repairs.
After hearing the bid and discussing the scope of extinguisher coverage for precincts, Judge Isabel "Izzy" Carrasco moved to table the item so Jailer Shaun Jones could obtain a cost to include the precinct fire extinguishers in the contract. Commissioner Casey Russell seconded the motion, and the court tabled the contract consideration by majority vote.
The court did not adopt a new contract at the meeting; staff will return with updated pricing that includes extinguisher service for precinct offices before the court takes further action.
