Wayne County Commissioners unanimously approve Hawley grant support, ratify hospital contract, accept resignations and OK $1.11 million in bills

The Wayne County Commissioners unanimously approved several routine but consequential items during their Feb. 5 meeting in Honesdale.
Commissioner James Shook moved and Commissioner Jocelyn Cramer seconded approval of a letter of support for Hawley Borough's application for a Multi‑Modal Transportation Grant for projects along Church Street; the motion passed unanimously. The board also ratified a contract with Wayne Memorial Hospital for temporary physician services at the Wayne County Correctional Facility after a motion by Commissioner Brian W. Smith and a second from Commissioner Cramer.
The commissioners accepted three letters of resignation: Gabriella Bruford, Blended Casework Manager in BDP/EI (effective Feb. 8, 2026); part‑time Corrections Officer Michael Fitzgerald (effective Feb. 1, 2026); and Tara Fiorelli, Clerk II in Tax Claim (effective Feb. 13, 2026). The board voted unanimously to hire Sarah Morgan as Clerk II in the Tax Claim Office, effective Feb. 9, 2026.
The board received the Treasurer's Report dated Feb. 4, 2026 and unanimously approved payment of the bills presented (checks No. 138725–138817 and related Human Services and BDP/EI checks). The minutes list individual vendors and show a total of $1,113,681.73 for the presented bills and vouchers. The minutes also record separate voucher subtotals, including Transportation items shown as $200,277.06, HSA items with $114,921.52, Children and Youth items totaling $46,814.27, and BDP/EI vendor payments totaling $78,276.48.
Commissioner James Shook provided a brief infrastructure update, noting that the Nelson Bridge in Starrucca is moving forward in the replacement process. The commissioners recessed for an executive session on personnel during the meeting and adjourned after returning.
