Bedford County approves Fair Housing resolution affirming non-discrimination in housing

The Bedford County Board of Commissioners on June 11 adopted Fair Housing Resolution No. 06.11.24, reaffirming that discrimination in the sale, rental, leasing or financing of housing is prohibited under Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (the Federal Fair Housing Act) and that the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act adds protections such as age and ancestry.
The resolution directs the county to publicize the name and contact information of the local Fair Housing Officer, provide the process for filing complaints, and conduct at least one annual Fair Housing activity to better inform the public of their rights. The resolution also requires use of the Fair Housing logo on housing program materials and outreach to owners, developers and builders about their responsibilities under federal and state law.
The motion to approve the resolution was made by Commissioner Baughman, seconded by Commissioner Stiles and recorded as approved in the minutes. The county’s CDBG administrator Jeffrey Fellers recommended the measure and will be involved in related outreach and program communications.
