Greenville OKs road and trail closures for June Tri-Greenville Triathlon

The Greenville City Council on March 7 approved a request to close multiple roads and a segment of the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail for the Tri-Greenville Triathlon scheduled for June 3, 2023. Councilperson Lehman moved approval of the closures; Councilperson Moss seconded; the motion passed unanimously.

Council approved an event set-up and tear-down closure on W. Baldwin Lake Drive from Mills Park to the west city limits (including Baldwin Lake Beach) from 2:00 a.m. Friday, June 2 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, and noted the city will post advance warning signage and detours. Race-day road closures (Saturday, June 3 from 5:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.) include Baldwin Street (South Street to Merritt Drive), Manoka Lake Boulevard (Merritt to E. Baldwin Lake Drive), W. Baldwin Lake Drive (Marvel to Mills Park), E. Baldwin Lake Drive (Marvel to the west city limit), Marvel Drive (South Street to W. Baldwin Lake Drive), Mills Park Drive (W. Baldwin Lake Drive to Pine Drive), Pine Drive (W. Baldwin Lake Drive to Mills Park), and Como Lake Drive (E. Baldwin Lake Drive to the end). The Fred Meijer Flat River Trail is recommended closed between Baldwin Street and Lafayette Street.

South Street restrictions were approved for the segment from Marvel Drive to Lafayette Street: no parking on either side on June 3 from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and a road closure from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Additional parking closures (5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) affect Meijer Drive (from the eastern-most Meadow Ridge Apartments drive to the new Crescent View Apartments driveway) and Marvel Drive (from Judd Street to South Street).

The council did not attach conditions beyond the timing and signage plans discussed at the meeting. Residents on affected streets can expect temporary detours and parking restrictions on the morning of June 3.
