Greenville council approves events, planning contract and infrastructure bids

The Greenville City Council approved a cluster of routine and project items on April 4, including downtown event street closures, a planning contract, and two small capital contract awards.
The council approved a street closure for the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Party on Lafayette, scheduled for Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with street closures staged from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Streets listed for closure included M-91 (Washington to Montcalm), Cass Street (alley to Lafayette) and Grove Street (alley to Lafayette). Council also approved a Chamber request to close parking spaces on the west side of North Lafayette Street (Cass to Grove) on Tuesday evenings for Bike Night from June 6 through August 29 (5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.). Both measures were moved and seconded and adopted unanimously.
Council approved a proposal from CIB Planning of Fenton, Michigan, to develop an Economic Development Strategy and Marketing Plan under the Redevelopment Ready Communities program in an amount not to exceed $27,500. Councilperson Lehman moved the contract approval; Councilperson Moss seconded; the vote was unanimous.
For water infrastructure work, the council awarded a bid for Lead Service Verification (potholing) under the Drinking Water Asset Management program to Underground Infrastructure Services of Livonia, Michigan, in an amount not to exceed $160,550. Council also approved a small contract to J. House Construction LLC of Greenville for replacement of airport maintenance hangar windows and fascia in an amount not to exceed $11,275. All awards passed by unanimous vote.
On the consent agenda the council approved payroll for the period ending March 18, 2023 ($135,118.48), and accounts payable for the period ending March 28, 2023 ($224,782.37). The council also set a public hearing for May 2, 2023 to take comments on a proposed zoning amendment to rezone 115 E. Van Deinse (Parcel 052-561-001-00) from C-2 (General Commercial) to NLZD (North Lafayette Zoning District).
All motions in this package were adopted unanimously; Councilperson Johnson was recorded as absent. The meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
