Greenville council approves 12-year tax abatement for AIG Taurus expansion

Councilperson Lehman moved to adopt Resolution No. 23-07 under Michigan Public Act 198 of 1974; Councilperson Johnson seconded and the council approved the resolution by a recorded vote of 6 Ayes, 0 Nays, with Councilperson Moss absent. The resolution authorizes a Tax Exemption Agreement and directs the Mayor and City Clerk to sign and file the agreement and the Affidavit of Fees with the State Tax Commission upon the developer’s signing.
The resolution states the project is calculated to retain or create employment in Greenville. The council record identifies the project as involving the acquisition and installation of a new facility within the city’s Industrial Development District and limits the duration of the exemption to 12 years, subject to the terms of the agreement.
During the public hearing that preceded the vote, Kevin Carlson said he was concerned about how the tax exemption would affect jobs and taxes in Greenville. Larry Moss offered congratulations to AIG Taurus on the expansion. Julie Osborn, representing AIG Taurus, summarized the company’s past and pending applications and said the company plans to continue adding jobs.
