Soddy‑Daisy begins codification update of municipal ordinances; first reading approved

The Soddy‑Daisy Board of Commissioners on Oct. 6 held a public hearing and approved on first reading an ordinance to adopt a codification and revision of the city’s municipal ordinances.
City Attorney Elliott told the board that the city periodically updates its municipal code and uses the University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) to prepare codification. City Manager Johnson said the codification work began in 2018 but was delayed by the COVID‑19 pandemic.
Commissioner Shipley moved to approve the ordinance on first reading; Commissioner Coleman seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
If adopted after subsequent readings and any amendments, the codification will consolidate ordinances passed over time into a revised municipal code prepared with MTAS assistance. The city did not state a projected adoption date at the meeting.
