Quilts of Valor group presents quilt honoring veteran at Soddy‑Daisy meeting

Jane Hill of the Quilts of Valor Foundation addressed the Soddy‑Daisy Board on Nov. 3 and presented a Quilt of Valor honoring Robert Cothran, who served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. Hill described the quilt’s three layers — the colorful top representing community and individuals, the batting representing warmth and hope, and the backing representing strength — and said each stitch represents "love, gratitude and sometimes the tears of the maker."
Hill said the organization was founded in 2003 by Katherine Roberts and has awarded about 300,000 quilts across the country. She introduced members Wanda Mathews and Sandra Price of the Ridgedale Patriots. At the close of the presentation a certificate from the Quilts of Valor Foundation was presented to Vice‑Mayor Cothran.
The presentation was ceremonial; it did not require or prompt any formal board action.
