Residents and local groups update Soddy‑Daisy commission on planning, museum and holiday events

Several community speakers used the citizen‑participation portion of the Nov. 17 meeting to highlight planning work, volunteer efforts and upcoming events.
Pam Glaser, a Regional Planning Agency planner, said the RPA has hired consultants to review Area 8 (including Soddy‑Daisy) to address infrastructure and land use; the study is scheduled to kick off in January. Cindi Sanden of Keep Soddy‑Daisy Beautiful and president‑elect of the North Hamilton Chamber of Commerce thanked Mayor Nunley and Vice‑Mayor Cothran for their service, described collaboration to support McDonald’s Farm development and said local nonprofits would help preserve small‑town character while accommodating growth. Jim Stewart also thanked volunteers and invited new commissioners to get involved.
William Shadwick, representing the Good Ole Days Museum, said Pioneer Days went well, reported the museum building is for sale and said organizers hope for a new shared building for the museum, library and senior center; he noted the History Fair is scheduled for Jan. 21. Commissioners made several routine announcements: Vice‑Mayor Cothran announced the Christmas Parade for the first Sunday in December at 2 p.m.; Commissioner Coleman said new donation boxes for "Christmas for Kids" will be placed around the city the following day; Commissioner Shipley said Christmas in the Park would again be postponed because of widespread illness in local schools.
Commissioner Shipley also asked the board to consider purchasing the vacant Family Dollar building (if unsold) to relocate the Police Department rather than constructing a new south building and renovating the existing municipal building; no decision was made on that suggestion during the meeting.
