Commission approves church egg hunt; volunteers outline Arbor Day and cleanup plans

The Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to allow Christ Family Church to hold a community egg hunt at Veterans Park on April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., after Allen Branum requested the date and confirmed city availability.
Jim Stewart of Keep Soddy‑Daisy Beautiful told commissioners that Arbor Day will be celebrated March 4 at Veterans Park (it was moved from Soddy Lake because of TVA approval delays). The group plans to plant 35 trees; the City Public Works Department will dig holes, donations are coming in and volunteer signups are growing. Mayor Everett asked whether the group will continue working with TVA on approvals; City Manager Johnson said they are pursuing those approvals.
Nate Sanden, also with Keep Soddy‑Daisy Beautiful, announced a cleanup scheduled for Feb. 25 on Hotwater Road to remove what he characterized as "hundreds of tires" dumped there, and a Community Cleanup Challenge on April 17; he said details will be posted on the city website.
The egg hunt motion was made by Commissioner Shipley and seconded by Commissioner Penney; the vote was unanimous.
